Bonzenga is a work that asserts a strong and distinctive presence through a frontal portrait imbued with emotion and symbolism. The figure, with its direct and confident gaze, stands out against an intense red background, thereby creating an immediate visual tension. This vibrant red can be interpreted as an expression of vitality, inner strength or even emotional struggle. The face and body are covered in colourful, almost organic patterns that convey a multifaceted identity shaped by cultural, social and personal influences. This layering of textures gives the impression of a memory etched into the skin. The yellow hair, a striking element of the composition, provides a luminous contrast and symbolises a form of self-assertion, or even dignity. The dark clothing, adorned with subtle patterns, balances the composition by enhancing the character’s depth. Through this work, Charley Ngisilu explores self-construction, external perception and the inner richness of the individual in a world in constant flux.
